North Carolina Lighting & Electrical Products Sales Rep Firm
A North Carolina lighting and electrical products sales rep firm moved off spreadsheet-based customer tracking onto Sales Cloud, then added account categorization and meeting reporting that gave its owners a single view of field activity across two states.
The client is a North Carolina-based sales representative firm covering North Carolina and South Carolina, serving residential lighting showroom distributors, electrical distributors, builders, retailers, and designers. With account managers strategically positioned across both states, the company operates as a trusted advisor and partner to the residential building products channel. The firm had no central system for accounts, contacts, or sales activity — customer visits and call notes lived in weekly spreadsheets that the owners had to assemble by hand. The company engaged SiiMPLY7 to stand up Sales Cloud, migrate its existing records, and later formalize how the field team logged and reported on customer engagement.
The challenge
The owners could not see, in one place, who had been visited, when, and by whom. Activity was logged inconsistently, some users could record it at the account level and others could not, and builders were buried among distributors with no reliable way to separate them. Pulling a simple report on customer interactions meant collecting spreadsheets from each rep every week.
The solution
The firm configured Sales Cloud Starter for core account, contact, opportunity, and activity management, then migrated accounts, contacts, and leads in two validated load rounds. A follow-on phase corrected activity-logging permissions, added an Account Categorization field to cleanly separate builders from distributors, and introduced a custom Meeting object so visits could be logged and reported with owner-only visibility into the rollups.
Implementation highlights
What we built.
- Sales Cloud Pro Suite configured for accounts, contacts, opportunities, and activity management
- Two-round data migration of accounts, contacts, and leads with field mapping and pre-load preparation
- Activity-logging permissions corrected so all internal users could log at the account level
- New Account Categorization picklist with historical accounts back-classified as Builder or Distributor
- Custom Meeting object with subject, date, time, notes, and account lookup, plus owner-restricted access
- Meeting and activity reports giving the two owners a consolidated view of field engagement
Results
Weekly spreadsheet collection replaced by live reporting in Salesforce
Builders separated from distributors across the full account base
Owner interaction reporting moved from a weekly compile to dashboards
Engagement summary
The initial build replaced ad hoc spreadsheets with a configured Sales Cloud org and clean migrated data. A second support phase resolved the activity-logging gap, added builder and distributor categorization, and shipped a meeting-tracking object with reports the owners could pull themselves.
What's next
The team scoped automated follow-up reminders, including tasks triggered when a builder has not been contacted within a set window, plus reminders for expiring contracts and forecasting dates. A recurring 60-day review cadence was established to keep refining the org and prioritize the next set of automation requests.
